John Hubley "Mr.Magoo: Ragtime Bear"

Featuring the memorable voice of Jim Backus, Mr Magoo - Ragtime Bear introduced the world in 1949 to the immortal Mr Magoo, hard of hearing, cantankerous and strangely a survivor. It was directed by the great John Hubley. In this first cartoon in a long-running series our hero goes to a lodge in the mountains, awakens a sleeping bear and takes him there as a friend, having lost one banjo-tooting acquaintance on the way. The bear takes more of a shine to the banjo than to Magoo, as is shown in one sequence that made me laugh aloud when the furry creature has to make a choice when his master falls off a staircase.
