Louise Ridley "The Raven"

The Raven (2006) directed by Louise Ridley from Surrey Institute of Arts and Design is a sophisticated take on the Edgar Allan Poe story. A young poet seems to have been deserted by his muse. A knock at the door admits no-one though a raven has seemingly entered the room. The bird becomes agitated though not nearly so much as the man. Writers often get writer's block and as the wings of the bird overwhelm room and occupant the black mood suffered by artists the world over is given a bit of symbolic oomph. The technique used here is oil paint on glass giving that smooth rendering, counterpointed nicely by the angular features of the poet.
