Wei Hou "Territory" (2009)

I am no great lover of fantasy games myself though I realise they possess a fascination for just about everyone else. The world of martial arts and fantasy combat obviously influences Wei Hou in his thesis film from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, Germany. Territory, a monochrome film (with a smidgen of red) is strangely beautiful, lines of warriors drawn up in confrontation, the heroes fighting each other in a stylised manner beloved of martial arts aficionados. We wheel through the action, slowed down to snail’s pace at times. (The film is based on a Taoist fable about battling for territory on the horns of a snail.) I confess I missed the philosophical or psychological points but aesthetically Territory works very well. We meet the poor snail towards the close in a sequence that demonstrates we should not take these things too seriously.

Awesome site. I thought I wanted to be an animator for a long time but I'm not sure if it's right for me. this article explains it pretty well if anyone is interested.
