Lucie Mayjonade "Hai puka" (2010)

Hai puka is made by Lucie Mayjonade, also from Ecole Georges Méliès, whose voice so adorns Wild Mills also featured here today. In a mixed 2D and 3D piece a simply drawn figure of a child attempts to overcome his terrors, taken from the reality of a noisy train to a more abstract outdoors where his pursuit of a golden fish forces him to negotiate a turbulent world. Olivier Michelot offers a rhythmic soundtrack and we get Lucie's voice at the close. In a sense it is an extended work of character animation, and an excellent one at that, but given an imaginative canvas and a touch of orange.
